The Plan!

The Grand Tour 2016 -- Germany, Luxembourg, France, Austria, Croatia

Our tri-annual trip to Bavaria, etc has again been planned to coincide with my new ride.  Specifically a 2017 BMW F80 M3 Competition Package.

The current itinerary has us leaving Virginia on September 28th via American Airlines, arriving in Frankfurt, Germany on September 29th.  We'll continue on to Munich via Lufthansa, arriving around 12 noon the same day.

We'll spend a few days in Munich, enjoying the Bavarian hospitality, including the annual Oktoberfest festival. One of our dear friends will be in the EU around the time of our trip, so she's going to come hang out with us for a couple days....take in all the O-fest fun.

I'll take delivery of the M3 on October 1st at the BMW Welt.

We'll head out to Nurburg and the Nurburgring on October 2nd. I've always wanted to drive the Green Hell...aka the Nordschleife (North Loop).  I'm not planning on setting any land speed records, but will be great to get a few laps in on the famous circuit....much to my wife's chagrin :)

Once I'm done with the Green Hell, we'll depart Nurburg and head south through Luxembourg, France (Strasbourg) and back to Germany to Konstanz (Lake Constance area) for the night.

The next day we'll head toward Rovinj, Croatia, via the Grossglockner High Alpine Road by way of Schwangau (Neuschwanstein Castle) for the obligatory picture :).  We'll overnight in Grosskirchheim on the road to break things up... 12+ hours of driving in a day will not be good for the marriage.

Once we reach Rovinj, we'll spend the next few days relaxing and enjoying the Istrian Peninsula.

At the end of our time in Croatia, we'll head back to Munich to drop off the car and head back to the USA on October 12th.

Here's the tentative route for reference.....

To be continued........
